The British Highland regiments have always enjoyed a reputation as fierce and skillful foes, and this was certainly true during the Napoleonic Wars. The Highland regiments fought with distinction throughout the conflict, appearing in Egypt, right through the Peninsular campaign and culminating in the battles of Quatre Bras and Waterloo.

Three regiments wore the Highland kilt and the feathered bonnet. They were the 42nd Foot (Black Watch), 79th Foot (Cameron Highlanders) and 92nd Foot (Gordon Highlanders); each regiment adopting a unique tartan for their kilts.
